George S. Ames Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1991, the George S. Ames Memorial Scholarship assists students pursuing an education in a technical field. George Ames served as a White House correspondent prior to World War II. Following the war, he settled in the Williamsburg area where he worked at Fort Eustis writing regulations and making training films. Preference is given to graduates from one of the public high schools in Williamsburg or James City County. To qualify for this opportunity, applicants must be a Virginia resident; have a minimum high school GPA of 2.5; maintain full-time student status; be registered in a technology program; and be a resident of Williamsburg or James City County (preferred).
